The East London Royals were formed on 27th July 2001.
They became members of BIMA and were equally managed by Marie the trainer, Debbie Finance & Admin and Judith in charge of costumes. Unfortunately Judith had to leave due to family commitments and now the troupe is managed by Marie & Debbie.
Over the last few years they have been performing at local community schools, fetes & fun days and also do a lot of charity work including the Canary Wharf Rivers Festival and The London Chest Hospital Summer Fete.
Due to a decrease in local bookings we decided if we were to continue the Troupe we would have to change direction and took the decision to start entering competitions.
In May 2005 we joined a new federation Twirling UK and went to our first competition in October 2005. Although no one knew what to expect, a great weekend was had by all and we came away with our first 4 medals.
In June 2006 we joined S.A.M. and entered our first open competition. Marie's Husband Zak joined as our first roadie, to drive the minibus, put up the tent and be our general dogsbody. We entered 6 competitions in total this year and came away with 15 trophies, which included most improved troupe of the year and also our trainer Marie won TUK Trainer of the Year 2006, what a great start for the troupe.
To kick off 2007 we decided to start our first Tiny section, who attended their first competition in March 2007 and came away with 1st Place.
We attended 8 open competitions and the Tuk regionals & nationals during 2007.
We ended 2007 on a high with winning a trophy for every section we entered at the TUk's Nationals in October and again for every section we entered at Destinys Open Comp in November.
During 2008 we entered 8 competitions, we also joined a new federation called Phoenix and started an Adult section. We entered 5 open day competitions with SAM and went away for two weekend competitions in April and October with BATON and one weekend competition in October with PHOENIX. Over the 8 competitions we came away with 80 Trophies and the girls won 114 individual medals.
We also took part in many community events including The London Chest Hospital, Isle of Dogs Community Fun Day, Healthy Lifestyle Events and Neighbours in Poplar Christmas Party.
We had an opportunity of a lifetime and took part in a Music Video for the band called The Feeling, which was filmed at 3 Mills Studios in Bow.
In May we managed to hold our own competition in Beckton to say a big Thank You to all troupes who over the last couple of years had invited us to their competitions. We were lucky enough to pick the hottest weekend in May and a great day was had by all.
